Free Invoice Format — GST Tax Invoice Template & Format Guide

An invoice (or bill) is the document a seller issues to a buyer recording a sale — what was supplied, how much was charged, the tax applied, and what is due. In India, a GST-registered business must raise a "tax invoice" that carries the specific particulars set out in Rule 46 of the CGST Rules; getting the format wrong can cost the buyer their input tax credit and expose the seller to penalties. This guide explains exactly what a correct invoice contains — header details, GSTIN, HSN/SAC codes, taxable value, the CGST+SGST or IGST split, and the legally required particulars — and how to build one. KukBook lets you create, print and share these invoices free, and for GST documents it also generates your e-invoice (IRN + QR), e-way bill, and GSTR-1 and GSTR-3B returns straight from the same billing data — no separate filing tool or re-keying.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between a tax invoice and a bill of supply?

A tax invoice is issued by a GST-registered seller on taxable supplies and shows GST separately, letting the buyer claim input tax credit. A bill of supply is issued when no GST is charged — by composition-scheme dealers or on exempt goods — and shows no tax breakup. KukBook can create both formats.

What fields are mandatory on a GST invoice in India?

Rule 46 of the CGST Rules requires the title "Tax Invoice", a unique serial number and date, the supplier's name, address and GSTIN, the recipient's details (GSTIN for B2B), place of supply and state code, HSN/SAC code, item description, quantity, taxable value, GST rate and amount split into CGST+SGST or IGST, the total, a reverse-charge note where applicable, and the supplier's signature. KukBook's template includes these by default.

Is the KukBook invoice format really free, and can I share it?

Yes. You can create, print and share invoices free — download as PDF, print, or send to your customer. For GST documents, KukBook also generates the e-invoice (IRN + QR), e-way bill, and your GSTR-1 and GSTR-3B returns from the same data, with no separate filing tool.

Do I need to generate an e-invoice and e-way bill for every bill?

No. E-invoicing applies only once your turnover crosses the government threshold, and an e-way bill is needed only when goods worth more than ₹50,000 are moved. Below those limits a normal tax invoice is enough. KukBook generates the IRN/QR e-invoice and the e-way bill when your transaction needs them.
